21 WAYS TO BE A GOOD DEMOCRAT

December 30, 2007 · 78 Comments

capitalism_socialism 1. You have to be against capital punishment, but support abortion on demand.

2. You have to believe that businesses create oppression and governments create prosperity.

3. You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding Americans are more of a threat than U.S. Nuclear weapons technology in the hands of Chinese and North Korean communists.

4. You have to believe that there was no art before Federal funding.

5. You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by cyclical documented changes in the earth’s climate and more affected by soccer moms driving SUV’s.

6. You have to believe that the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of federal funding.

7. You have to believe that the same teacher who can’t teach fourth graders how to read is somehow qualified to teach those same kids about sex.

8. You have to believe that hunters don’t care about nature, but loony activists who have never been outside of San Francisco do.

9. You have to believe that self-esteem is more important than actually doing something to earn it.

10. You have to believe that Mel Gibson spent $25 million of his own money to make The Passion of the Christ for financial gain only.

11. You have to believe the NRA is bad because it supports certain parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is good because it supports certain parts of the Constitution.

12. You have to believe that taxes are too low, but ATM fees are too high.

13. You have to believe that Margaret Sanger and Gloria Steinem are more important to American history than Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Edison, and A.G. Bell.

14. You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial quotas and set-asides are not.

15. You have to believe that Hillary Clinton is normal and is a very nice person.

16. You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn’t worked anywhere it’s been tried is because the right people haven’t been in charge.

17. You have to believe conservatives telling the truth belong in jail, but a liar and a sex offender belonged in the White House.

18. You have to believe that homosexual parades displaying drag, transvestites, and bestiality should be constitutionally protected, and manger scenes at Christmas should be illegal.

19. You have to believe that illegal Democratic Party funding by the Chinese Government is somehow in the best interest to the United States.

20. You have to believe that this message is a part of a vast, right wing conspiracy.

21. You have to believe that it’s okay to give Federal workers off on Christmas Day but it’s not okay to say “Merry Christmas.”

Ready to vote???

Yep, that about sums up the democrat party platform!

  • TRM // December 30, 2007 at 2:53 pm

They did leave off Dr. Savage’s diagnosis,,, liberal’s are all suffering from a clinical mental disorder…

  • arclightzero // December 30, 2007 at 3:08 pm

that is true… And those who aren’t suffering from a common disorder are suffering from “disorderless anxiety disorder”

  • TRM // December 30, 2007 at 3:13 pm

OK, we’re on a roll, :) let’s not forget the common affliction to sane, logical people after being exposed to the liberal sickness, Irritable Bowel Syndrome…

  • yoko presley // December 30, 2007 at 8:18 pm

hey – come on!! Neo-Stalinists are our friends. They LOVE us and only have our BEST INTERESTS in mind.

There is no socialist like a National Socialist…

  • arclightzero // December 30, 2007 at 8:50 pm

You can’t forget that the general premise of the democrats is that they hate themselves and won’t stop until you hate yourself too. Any pride in self or country must be crushed out!

  • TRM // December 30, 2007 at 9:54 pm

    Neo-Stalinist our friends?
    Tell me more Yoko

  • No Compromises // December 30, 2007 at 10:01 pm

C’mon NC…. tell us what your reeeaaallly thinking

  • JohnDemetriou // December 30, 2007 at 11:59 pm

What a ridiculous, brash, loud mouthed, typical thicko republican, boorish, idiotic, ad hominem using, simplistic and fundamentally flawed approach to politics.

Please, this is the stuff of mindless, bored tabloid journos and fat faced spouting shock jocks who like the sound of their own voice.

Dear oh dear, how the Right wing in America likes to talk the talk but shy away from walking the walk.

The Republicans will have had 8 years in the White House and a large concurrent amount of time with a dominant majority in Congress. And what have they done with it? Destroyed the economy, fuelled the utterly stupid and facile religious far-Right and destroyed any reputation the US has abroad.

    Well played.

Now tell me Gore would have done worse.

    *rolls eyes*

    John,
Your use of adjectives is stunning. Your liberal ignorance is frightening.

  • wickle // December 31, 2007 at 2:36 am

Well, you know, if you put it that way, it just seems so ridiculous …

You already had a point about manger scenes, but it seems like a point should be added:

Crosses should be banned in public places, unless they’re submerged in urine — in which case they deserve federal funding.

  • rhbee // December 31, 2007 at 2:39 am

I’m with you John and I agree with the half of TRM”””””””””’s brain that applauded your use of adjectives. From my perspective it appears the post above has been invaded by Coultergiest.

  • Lara // December 31, 2007 at 4:29 am

Blog entries like the above are fun to read, and probably fun to write too. But they don’t bear any relevance to my life or millions of others’ lives in America–those of us who see both parties becoming extreme and therefore not representing our interests. So many people in America fall in the middle on key issues in this election and don’t see themselves represented in pretty much any campaign by either party.

I’ll give you that that doesn’t make as entertaining a blog posting. Not as much fun to read, not as much fun to write. Write on.

  • TRM // December 31, 2007 at 4:42 am

Lara, if your thought’s prove true, then you must choose a side… let it be the right one.

  • Me // December 31, 2007 at 5:41 am

Wow. This was a very important post. Impressive that you had time to write it, seeing as all you conservatives are trolling for blow jobs in the mens room these days.

  • TRM // December 31, 2007 at 5:48 am

    Me;\
    you are stupid

  • nightowl724 // December 31, 2007 at 6:12 am

    Very funny, TRM!

You might be surprised to learn that I’m more-or-less on the same side of the fence with you on seven of these points. There is no candidate – and certainly no party – that truly represents me.

    However, on number 17…

I think that GW Bush is no philanderer, but for Republicans to cite Clinton’s sexual behavior is folly, as R party members and supporters have had more than their share of sex-related scandals. Clinton disgraced his party and his country – and not just by his dalliances in the Oval Office, but…

And, I just don’t understand how some people can equate lying about what should have been (had Clinton been less prolific and more discreet) a private matter with lying us into a war, as Bush did.

  • TRM // January 1, 2008 at 2:07 am

    Hi Night Owl,,,
I still believe that we did what had to be done by going into Iraq… there may have been some creativity involved to get us there but you must admit, with the region being a huge sore on our collective lip, we are in a good place strategically…

  • nightowl724 // January 1, 2008 at 4:00 am

Not really. We broke both international and American law by engaging in a preemptive military action. Even worse, it was based on lies. We have fomented even more hatred, inviting even more terrorism and violence directed towards the US. We are now in more danger than before.

I know you are a firm believer in “might makes right,” but our country would have been better served had we expended the same money and effort to promote conservation and alternative energies. Oil is a finite resource. And, no one would have died, been injured, become widowed/orphaned, or suffered from PTSD had we instead followed that course.

From “the other side of the fence,” I wish you and yours a happy new year!

  • TRM // January 1, 2008 at 4:19 am

International law…. when everyone else starts playing by these so called “rules”, then we should,

Night Owl when will you stop the “everything is our fault” delusion? If we layed down all of our arms, withdrew every last swinging dick from foreign theater these assholes are still going to come at us…! What’s keeping you from understanding that?

As for alternative energy sources, Hemp is the logical choice. Cheap, easily produced and efficient. Until the free market dictates an incentive to free ourselves from foreign oil its just not going to happen…

  • No Compromises // January 1, 2008 at 6:54 am

Oh, I see all the bed wetting crybaby, 60s throwbacks from Cooba got on your blog to make their very (un)intelligent and (un)productive, “let’s all koom-bi-ya” comments based in fantasy and not reality opinions!

Go back to Cooba where you belong you Hate and Blame America first, commie freaks!

  • TRM // January 1, 2008 at 2:08 pm

LOL NC…,,, NightOwl was invited,,, the rest showed up on a plywood sailboat…..

  • nightowl724 // January 1, 2008 at 2:34 pm

Thanks, TRM! I read NCs comment last night, but I decided to sleep on it before I responded.

If and when YOU tell me to leave, I’m outta here. Otherwise, I will drop by once in a while for some (hopefully) civil conversation. I will try to ignore those who want to deny my rights to freedom of speech, thought, and – yes – even of dissent. And, I will try to defend YOUR rights – and even NC’s – to the same.

Although I publish stinging diaries and comments at progressive blogs, here, I am in YOUR “home” and I will try to behave as such. I guess that’s just the Commie Pinko Bleeding Heart Liberal Koom-Bi-Ya Crybaby 60s Throwback side of me showing…

Later, I will address the specifics of your hemp comment.

  • TRM // January 1, 2008 at 2:42 pm

Night Owl do you have a blog? If so I would be proud to blog roll you.. although you would have to be placed along side Hysterical Raisins in my “loony left” section… no offense, but we don’t want you infecting us conservatives with your sickness :)

I actually wish more lib’s would visit,,, to try and learn more about the illness and possibly cure some!!! :)

  • nightowl724 // January 1, 2008 at 4:24 pm

    TRM, about your earlier comments…

“…when everyone else starts playing by these so called ‘rules’, then we should,…”

I would like America to again be a respected diplomatic, technological, medical, and manufacturing leader and an inspiration for democracy to other countries. This would improve our safety, our economy, and our national pride and demonstrate the value of democracy. When we were more like that, it didn’t hurt us; we prospered!

“What’s keeping you from understanding that?” “Understanding” and “accepting” are two different things. How much of a bully must we be? We already have the most military power – far more than we need!

    See here:
    http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/spending.htm
    here:
    http://www.truemajority.com/oreos/
    here:
    http://www.pbs.org/kcet/tavissmiley/video/146.html
    and here:
    http://www.truemajority.com/bensbbs/.

Even if we didn’t spend the money saved by spending less for military purposes on educational, environmental, and social programs, how about just giving it back to the American people? Many of us as individuals could use a break and entrepreneurs could use the capital to grow businesses!

“Hemp is the logical choice. ” Agreed. I’m tired of being beholden to foreign countries for our energy needs! I like the sound of whip grass, too, as Bush mentioned in one of his speeches. Using corn would just create more problems by driving up the cost of food.

I’m also tired of being beholden to one industry for our energy needs. Although limited in scope, thermal, wind, and solar power can be very effective in some regions. I don’t have time right now to find the links to the various cities/countries using these with great success.

“Until the free market dictates an incentive to free ourselves from foreign oil its just not going to happen…” It’s not just about the “free market,” it’s also about what our government “dictates” in the form of subsidies, grants, and even media coverage. We give billion$ in support of Big Oil. Had we done the same for alternative energies…

    Carter tried, Reagan denied.

  • nightowl724 // January 1, 2008 at 4:42 pm

Thanks for the offer, TRM, but I don’t have a blog. Too bad. I would have been proud to be one of your elite “Leftie Loonies!”

I do write for OpEdNews, Smirking Chimp, and Cure This. Everything I ever publish eventually winds up at Daily Kos, too. WARNING: You will need a stiff drink or two and some patience pills if you decide to take a look-see! (Trolls, please stay home, K?)

    My page at DK:
    http://www.dailykos.com/user/nightowl724

I wish my disease was “catchy.”

  • TRM // January 1, 2008 at 6:35 pm

Yikes,,, when I saw Daily Kos I threw up in my mouth a little…..
should I come over to your yard and “pee on the lawn” a little??? LOL The problem I find when I visit sites like that I just end up getting cursed at and insulted…. your a sensitive bunch……

You need a little war and violence to toughen you guys up….

  • nightowl724 // January 1, 2008 at 8:58 pm

Ummm… I’ve had more than enough war and violence, thank you very much.

One of my best friend’s brothers was wounded in Iraq. My husband’s best friend’s daughter is a reservist and was sent to Iraq three months after delivering her second child, his son-in-law served in Pakistan, and his son was also in Iraq. My cousin’s son-in-law has been in Iraq since almost the beginning. Another friend’s son-in-law was in Afghanistan, her daughter in Iraq. Shall I continue?

I don’t need to be run over by a truck to know that it would hurt…

Yes, I do know a little about being “peed on,” sometimes even at Daily Kos! You might actually like some of my stuff, TRM. You can always do what I usually do at “rightie” sites – visit, read, leave without commenting, and then complain to my “leftie” friends about it and/or write a new article! Oh, and methinks “righties” are just as sensitive and volatile as “lefties,” no?

  • TRM // January 1, 2008 at 10:26 pm

Sacrifice and service are going to be more a part of American’s lives in the future until we get rid of those radical Allah-ites…
The “gather intel and report back” method of getting writing ideas is a favorite of mine as well…
Righties are not sensitive! we are all balls and testosterone!

And NightOwl, I said pee in your yard, not pee “on” you,,, eeeewww

  • nightowl724 // January 1, 2008 at 10:54 pm

“We are all balls and testosterone!” Even the girls (besides Coulter and Malkin, of course!)? Nice…

Ha-ha! OOPS! I wasn’t exactly thinking of being peed on personally, I meant my ideas!

  • No Compromises // January 1, 2008 at 10:58 pm

    NightOwl,

No one is denying your right to free speech. Blogs are private and can discriminate if they so choose. This blog chooses to have you comment on his blog and I would support anyone of you to comment on my blog as well.

The right to free speech is guaranteed by our Constitution to protect us from the GOVERNMENT (not individuals) who’s goal is to expand and control us humans! If anyone is trying to take away your God-given free right to expression it’s commie freaks who are in control of this government not TRM or NC.

  • TRM // January 1, 2008 at 11:17 pm

I encourage all the moonbats to come here NC… it helps to know what the other side thinks, we are after all, “in this boat together”…
It gets boring “preaching to the choir” all the time… Hell, I even enjoy the occasional yelling, cursing fights!!~! Feels good to tell someone to FO every now and then… :)

NightOwl the girls are not balls and testosterone, but they do however seem to be able to overcome the affliction that clouds most women’s thoughts and judgement, emotion.
Whoa! Did that sound sexist? he he he
No big whoop about the “pee” comment, I know it was just your “sub-liberal thoughts” creeping to the surface… we repub’s know you lib’s are all a bunch of freaky deaky deviants… :)

  • TRM // January 1, 2008 at 11:19 pm

NOTE: I cannot believe I found the opportunity to use “freaky deaky” in a political blog ….

  • nightowl724 // January 1, 2008 at 11:35 pm

OK, NC. But, you have an odd way of showing your support of me commenting here, when the very first time I do, you call me names and tell me to go back to Cooba! Whatever…

Anyway, I agree with you that my government is more of a threat to my free speech than any individual could ever be (short of murdering me!).

And, we sort of concur on something else. I peeked at your blog and I saw your article on Classroom Management. I home school my son for some – not all – of the reasons you listed. The public school system is a total disaster. You call it a prison; I call it a ghetto.

“Government schools do not train children how to think. They train children what to think!” With this, I couldn’t agree more.

  • TRM // January 2, 2008 at 3:10 am

See NC! As with broken clocks, even liberals are right twice a day

  • TRM // January 2, 2008 at 3:22 am

WC !~!! you must have pissed some people off with your Hillary post from months ago, I just got a visit from a very foul mouthed little heathen….. now go over and exact your revenge! Hell, let’s all go and have some fun with the little bed wetter..

What a surprise – another fucked-up, pathetically immature Republican take on the meaning of life. What are you now, TRM, 15 or 16 years old? When I see a site as shallow as this one, there’s really only one four-letter word that suits it – FAIL.

  • TRM // April 16, 2008 at 11:34 am

Thanks anonymous dumbass! Have a nice day dick

  • Kagbag // May 10, 2008 at 12:45 am

    1: Meh, fine.
    2:Bullshit.
3:Untrue. Both are threats, but nukes are worse.
    4:Is that a joke?
5:Vehicle emissions on a global scale, not soccer moms and SUV’s.
    6:Bullshit.
7:PARENTS should teach that. Don’t try to pin sex-ed on liberals.
    8:Bullshit.
    9:Um, bullshit.
10:No, part of it was Mel Gibson being insane.
11:There’s nothing wrong with the second amendment. However, Civil liberties trump rifles. Just putting that out there.
    12:Meh, fine.
    13:Bullshit.
    14:Bullshit, they all are.
    15:Only if you’re stupid.
16:That, and it can’t compete with capitalism. For socialism to work, it has to be well managed and widely adopted.
17:Sex offender?….The only lie he told had no relation to his politics. As opposed to, I don’t know, Bush/Cheney?
    18:Bullshit. Wrong on both points.
    19:Bullshit.
20:Conspiracy? No, it’s an idiot with a blog.
21:There’s nothing wrong with a personal holiday, but the government is prohibited from favoring one religion.

1/7. That’s abysmal. Do your research.

  • Smrthnu // May 28, 2008 at 5:40 am

You are a douche bag who has a very small mind and uneducated opinions. Yay internet.

  • Buffoon(TRM) // May 28, 2008 at 12:56 pm

    Thank you very much!

  • Hyrum // June 7, 2008 at 10:49 pm

Hey Kagbag Rifles are civil liberties. Liberties held by civilians are civil liberties. Think about it.

  • Lazere // June 27, 2008 at 2:56 pm

You are a very odd one… It’s seems as if your entire purpose here is to deface the democrats… Yes, I have seen liberal sites that do the exact same thing for republicans, but that still doesn’t excuse the blatant hatred and generalization on your part. Tell me something here… Have you even begun questioning your own party? Have you looked at their faults lately? My guess would be no. Odds are that you are one of those people who always vote for their party member no matter how bad they are, or how good the other is, (ahem, George Dubya Bush). Also, was this supposed to be funny? Alas, if that was your goal you failed miserably… Taxes too low but ATM fees too high? Not quite sure how those go hand in hand, but I’m certain you’ll be glad to explain. On a side note, Kagbag, rifles are civil liberties, but they work just like any other liberty. You have the right to free speech but can still be sued for slander. If one persons liberty infringes on another’s, then they are abusing that liberty and will be punished accordingly. Got it?

  • Buffoon // June 27, 2008 at 3:01 pm

  • Him // August 28, 2008 at 5:32 am

Wow. This is a heated argument in which nothing has been resolved because those in the debate have not stuck to the “core” arguments.
What we should realize is that WE the people are the government. And the more time we spend insulting each other in blogs, scoffing at pathetic insults from fruitcakes that we’ll never meet–screw that! In front of our TVs wondering if we can get our kids into Hanna Montana’s concert or if we’ve got enough money to buy new clothes, etc, WE invite the few to take us over.
It’s like in Batman2 where the ballerina says “who let Batman become a hero?” and Dent says “We did! The people of Gotham when we let crime take over our city” (Something to that effect at least)
WE have become the people of Gotham. Too busy watching TV, gawking at celebrities, letting others think for us to do anything meaningful for our country.
We all think we can rule this country better than the next man, but how do we show it? By typing safely away on our computers.
Imagine what would make bigger news: 50 school kids killed by terrorists or friendly fire in Irak
    -OR-
Pamela Lee flashing her tits at the Superbowl.

Either way this argument is agonizingly deep. If we want to get into a whole Democrats v.s. Repulicans: The Final Battle (that will never end) blog, be my guest.

PS. I know, I came out of nowhere.

  • Him // August 28, 2008 at 5:36 am

I think nightowl’s post has been the most illuminating, and has stayed closest to the argument at hand. He didn’t even really address the issue of our national dept that we’ll have to pay back sometime.

  • Him // August 28, 2008 at 5:45 am

And I don’t care what someone says, after our fine president said “if you are not with us, then you are with the terrorists” I lost faith in our White House.
He’s turned the Iraq issue into a black and white issue.
He believes that the ends justify the means. I believe that that view is idiotic, insolent, and dangerous.
The U.S. is bitching about Korea or Pakistan sitting on a few WMDs, when we’ve got enough firepower to powder the world three times over. Not to mention our Star Wars anti WMD systems. And that’s not even counting the fact that the world depends on our sorry asses half the time for everything. If worst comes to worst, the U.S. could probably say “Jump”, and other countries would say “how high?”

  • Ric // August 29, 2008 at 1:10 am

It must be easy to make your opponents look bad when you attack things they don’t actually believe. This is a good example of conservative logic.

  • John // September 5, 2008 at 3:38 am

  • William Hogan // September 16, 2008 at 11:04 pm

Gotta say, this sounds incredibly wise. and i have to say this. i don’t think any person is always on one side or another. there is Grey area. i personally hold beliefs of both parties. i believe that the people should have the right to bear arms. and that the best way to generate revenue and keep the economy going is through low taxes. (less money the government gets, the more money we have to spend, thus the more money that they get). i also believe that a person is directly responsible for their own health. on the other side, i believe that women should be allowed to have abortion (up to a specific time after fertilization) and that if two people love each other and swear to love each other for the rest of their lives..and intend to honor that agreement then they should have the right to marry, regardless of sexual orientation.

You should rename this website “What ignorant Neo-con Republicans think is Democrat.” It’s the only way Republicans can get middle class people to vote for them, fear mongering.

Hahaha, summed the Democrats up in a nutshell. And then you see all of them scrambling to blame the economic crisis on Republican. Although the crisis is the fault of both parties to some extent, I can find about 3 times more fingers to point at the Democratic party (mostly the Clinton administration’s actions that we feel a bit later). The funniest part to me about liberals, is that they think anything that happens effects us almost immediately, which is a completely childish thought. If you wanna argue anything, my msn is MatthewDallas05@hotmail.com. I’d love to make a liberal look stupid on any given day.

Republicans* Keyboard and I don’t get along when I’m sleepy.

  • matt // November 29, 2008 at 4:20 am

fuck, I could care less about 99% of the things democrats believe in. But abortion! its just so fucked up and WRONG. I mean, not religiously, just fucking morally, comon sense, wrong. I personally hate the 2 party system. I think that we should have open elections. It’s like we dont REALLY get to choose our president, first of all the popular vote is not equal to the electorial votes which is complete BULLSHIT. for example, obama won, but just by a little, 51% to 49%, but thats not how they judged it, the use the electorial votes which had obama at over 300 and mccain under 2oo. b

  • anon // November 29, 2008 at 11:50 pm

wrong, wrong, and wrong. Also, if you want to complain about electoral votes…thank a republican for keeping them in use.

  • so many errors, so little time // November 30, 2008 at 2:02 am

I won’t waste my time on most of your list and the following comments; I think most people with an average IQ could figure out the fallacies involved. However, MATT, Obama won 51-46 not 49.

Moreover, Clinton was NOT a sex offender (he didn’t not rape, molest, or anything else generally considered a sex offense). It is not illegal to cheat your wife–immoral perhaps (a big perhaps if you look at history), but not illegal.

Let me simply say this: there are socialist countries that are successful…One of the most powerful countries in the world right now, China is communist/socialist. Not saying we should emulate them–but socialism isn’t the global failure you make it out to be.

Oh, and H. Clinton isn’t that popular among Dems. Did you notice she lost the primary?

I won’t waste my time on most of your list and the following comments; I think most people with an average IQ could figure out the fallacies involved. However, MATT, Obama won 52.8-45.8 not 49.

Moreover, Clinton was NOT a sex offender (he didn’t not rape, molest, or anything else generally considered a sex offense). It is not illegal to cheat your wife–immoral perhaps (a big perhaps if you look at history), but not illegal.

I, and a number of real socialists, wish the Democratic party were socialist, but believe me, they’re not–not even close. (Unless you consider re-distrubution socialist, then I wouldn’t mind being more like Denmark, the world’s ‘happiest’ country. And even then, Dem’s aren’t even close to that.)

Oh, and H. Clinton isn’t that popular among Dems. Did you notice she lost the primary?

  • Justin // December 1, 2008 at 10:15 pm

spoken like true fascists, you republicans are the funniest group of people on earth, good thing we don’t have to listen to your silly asses for at least the next four years.

  • Buffoon // December 1, 2008 at 11:22 pm

Hi Justin :) go fuck yourself

  • m00ndog // December 4, 2008 at 10:14 am

Hmm. I’m a Democrat who voted for Obama. Let’s see how your list fits me:

    1. I’m not against capital punishment but do think the standards for imposing it should be higher than for other punishment (e.g., require hard evidence, not just circumstantial). I don’t think abortion is right or a good idea but since it’s okay by the law it’s okay by me. It’s not like it’s _required_, after all.

    2. I’m a small businessman and not of the opinion that the government should do everything. Of course, they do have their uses.

    3. I’m pro-gun, in general and I think other countries have as much need to have nukes as we have. (None.)

    4. I see no need for government to fund art directly. No problem with making it easy, however. (Supporting art education, art workshops, museums, etc.)

    5. I think that even if global warming isn’t caused by man, man will be affected by it and ought to be concerned about it. Also, whether using gasoline causes it or not, it is beyond stupid to keep sending billions of dollars out of the country to buy it. And, since drilling for oil in the U.S. would be a temporary fix at best, it’s also beyond stupid to keep driving gas-guzzlers.

    6. How AIDS is spread is not the point. It is spread and hot air (saying “Just don’t”) won’t stop it.

    7. I believe that in Education, you get what you pay for. Double or triple teacher’s pay and you’ll get better teachers. Sex education needs careful consideration (when, who, etc.). I don’t have a problem with parents taking care of it per se, but will they? Really? And are they really the most qualified to do it? I mean, really??

    8. Lot’s of people care about nature but the question might be, “Who’s doing something about it.” Answer that and you’ll know who really cares.

    9. I agree that self-esteem has to be earned. Yup, and I’m a liberal.

    10. I don’t care how much Mel Gibson paid to make The Passion of Christ or why. I didn’t see it and have no particular desire to see it. What’s the point?

    11. You wrote: “You have to believe the NRA is bad because it supports certain parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is good because it supports certain parts of the Constitution.”

And wouldn’t just the opposite be true for conservatives? Seems to me that that negates your point. Personally, I support both.

    12. I think both taxes and ATM fees are too high.

    13. History is opinion. Everyone has their own. I don’t have a problem with schools covering more than one point of view.

    14. Standardized tests sometimes are racist and racial quotas are, by definition, racial. How can that be good.

    15. No one is politics is normal and no one is ‘a very nice person’ to everyone. Personally, I’m not a big fan of Hillary’s but I don’t think she’s an especially bad person. I like Bill Clinton a lot. I think Ronald Reagan was both a great president and a great Republican. In fact, I think he was the last real Republican. The people calling themselves “Republicans” now need a new name. Maybe something like “Thumpers.”

    16. Socialism hasn’t been a total failure in some places. I think you’re thinking of ‘Communism.’ Communism on paper is a nice idea but it hasn’t worked anywhere it’s been tried is because it doesn’t account for human nature.

    17. You wrote: “You have to believe conservatives telling the truth belong in jail, but a liar and a sex offender belonged in the White House.” Again, you’ve lost me here. I guess you’re referring to Bill Clinton who (a) had consensual sex with an adult and (b) was acquitted of all charges (none of which were for sex offenses). It may be your ‘opinion’ that he’s a sex offender, but that’s all it is. I can think of some conservatives who belong in jail but not for lying.

    18. I do believe that homosexual parades displaying drag, transvestites, and bestiality _are_ constitutionally protected and that manger scenes at Christmas should be too.

    19. I don’t believe illegal Democratic Party funding by the Chinese Government is somehow in the best interest to the United States (if it happened). Nor do I believe that corporate funding of any candidate for any office is in the best interests of the United States.

    20. I believe that your message is a part of a vast, right wing lunacy. (Not really–just kidding. I couldn’t help myself :-)

    21. I believe _everyone_ should be off for Christmas and don’t care who says “Merry Christmas.” I do believe that anyone who thinks Christmas is a ‘universal’ holiday is deluded.

The biggest problem with your list is that it tries to paint an entire large group with one brush. The world isn’t that simple, wish though you may.

  • Mike // December 5, 2008 at 1:58 am

Some of these are good points. Most are the reasons that conservatives get no respect. I am a conservative and a Republican, but most of these are just stupid ignorant hate for which conservatives are unfortunately too well-known.

  • Verdad // December 5, 2008 at 10:45 pm

If nationalization of private institutions is something born of socialism, then the USA is well on their way… most major banks (and soon the Big Three) have been effectively bought by the government due to the rapt incompetence of those running them. True capitalism is financial Darwinism which as the current state of things show is a myth like communism was.

  • foomatic // January 11, 2009 at 4:33 am

Wow, moondog. You almost kinda made sense there for a second. I felt you whoosh right by in your headlong rush to moral relativism. Much of your argument centers around a virtual shrug of the shoulders and accepting pop culture hollywood status quo. Makes you appear neither educated nor tolerant. The lowest form of morality that one may possess and be acceptable to society is to be deemed lawful. What a shame to not actually strive to understand ramifications and consequences of present attitudes and actions have upon the future. Come on, man – THINK. Don’t hang your hat on a form of morality that is dependent on the turn of a calender page. I think in your attempt to appear fair-minded you try to stake out a position in the middle of each argument. In Osama dogma vs. Saddam Hussein’s practices, where would you be? In the middle?? I certainly hope not. Quit being a tool and think deeper. Hand in your paper on it Monday morning.

  • Cause Without A. Rebel // January 12, 2009 at 9:54 pm

From an actual liberal(though 3rd party, not a Dem.)

    1. You can claim that Dems. support abortion and are against capital punishment, but GOPs still play the hypocritical role.

    2. Marx actually preached for the end of a powerful government sooo this number should actually read “Many businesses create oppression and government, when used effectively can prevent this. I.E. laws against child labor”

    3. Guns should not be banned, but controls should be very strict on handguns in urban settings. Being as I’ve grown up in a town located between the South side of Chicago and Gary, IN, I am faced with the danger of these weapons daily.

    4. Art museums should be left up to municipalities to fund, not the feds.

    5. The bigger concern is deforestation and the loss of algae, not so much the increase in CO2. Whether proven or not, this should be a huge concern. I am a firm believer that humans belong to the Earth, not vice versa.

    6. Federal funding doesn’t spread it, but it certainly could help prevent it. It’s ignorant to ignore the death of 2.1 million people in 2007 alone. Instead of giving Israel 2.4 billion dollars in weapons every year to kill in a never ending conflict, we could be using that money to save lives.

    7. I don’t think the state should be in charge of teaching about sex instead of parents, but it would provide a good supplement. Just ask Ms. Palin. Condoms won’t bring about the armageddon. However, if sex ed. is taught, abstinence should also be taught.

    8. Someone who truly loves nature wouldn’t need to show that by proving human dominance. The person who cares the most realizes that the best thing for nature is to leave it alone.

    9. No opinion.

    10. He can make whatever movie he damn well pleases.

    11. Well, if the Dems. believe that then the GOPs believe the opposite. Both major parties are once again contradictory.

    12. Tax money just needs to be better spent.

    13. Margaret Sanger did the world a great deed. The number one threat to the planet is ourselves and a great number of problems we face today come from overpopulation. No disrespect to the others.

    14. Fix the school system and neither of these would be a problem.

    15. She’s a warhawk.

    16. I don’t know whether socialism would work or not, but I would argue that it really hasn’t been attempted in the manner that Marx suggested.

    17. People who break the law go to jail. Clinton lied, which was not right, but I don’t really care who he has sex with.

    18. I’m fine with drag and transvestites. People can do what they want. Same for Christmas mangers. The government should stay away from religion, but that includes atheism.

    19. Party’s shouldn’t be funded by corporations or other governments.

    20. No. You have a right to your beliefs as do I.

    21. Workers should get off for religious holidays they celebrate, so long as they are few and reasonable in manner. You shouldn’t say Merry Christmas to someone who isn’t Christian. It’s rude.

  • Dan // January 15, 2009 at 6:22 am

“16. You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn’t worked anywhere it’s been tried is because the right people haven’t been in charge.”

I have to contest this point. Mostly because I wouldn’t touch the others with a 10 foot pole on a republican website.

Governments that are currently consider themselves socialist include: Portugal, Egypt, Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, as well a few other North African countries.

  • Brian // January 17, 2009 at 12:57 am

Wow, it’s sad how poorly eduacted you are. Too still believe that climate change is purely a cycle is ridiculous. Yes there are cycles, but due to the immense amount of greenhouse gases its a much more severe cycle that will make the world inhospitable. Even if it was a cycle wouldn’t it be wise to at least take percautions before the entire planet is ruined? Not to mention 95% of the scientific community will tell you your a moron because climate change is directly realated to humans. . . the other 5% was payed off by an automobile company to say there is no such thing and to keep buying their SUV’s. Please sir, stop yourself from writing completely false statements. . . your just embarressing yourself. . . but then again thats all republicans are good at . . . oh that and ruining a once prosperous super-power nation. Yeah, republicans sure know everything

  • Buffoon // January 18, 2009 at 4:31 pm

Hi Brian, ….. wipe that Kool-aid mustache off buddy… history will prove me right….. see you in ten years for the “I told ya so” moment….

Good luck with that whole thing though….. idiot

  • Nate // January 20, 2009 at 1:54 pm

This is a very silly list. Democracy is about none of these things and if you think it is you should think about how and why you vote. Vote based on your own beliefs and take the time to decide whether the way you vote affects people in a positive way.

  • Jim // January 22, 2009 at 10:34 pm

Wow… this is seriously pathetic. Excuse democrats for wanting out of a pointless war and to move away from the ideals of the worst rated president since Richard Nixon. I mean, realistically, change can’t really get any worse then the shithole George W. Bush got us into.

Oh, and by the way, to say that Obama is going to turn this country into a socialist country… is like saying that if republicans were in office, they would have made this country into a communist one.

Sorry for replying to this. I know I can never be as classy as some of you pathetic conservatives.
